Grupo Ibérica renews its collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation
The project supports the sustainability of the social sports programs in the Madrid I and Ocaña I and II penitentiary centers.
The executive vice president of the Real Madrid Foundation, Enrique Sánchez; the managing director, Julio González; and Roberto Carlos, ambassador and legend of the club, welcomed Fernando Núñez Rebolo, president of Grupo Ibérica, to the Ciudad Real Madrid to sign the renewal of the collaboration agreement with our Foundation.
Grupo Ibérica, a Spanish holding with 45 companies and over 1,800 employees, will support for the third consecutive year the sustainability of the activity of 6 football and basketball social sports schools, which are carried out in 3 penitentiary centers (Madrid I and Ocaña I and II) and which last season served more than 300 inmates.
Roberto Carlos expressed his gratitude: “We will continue working, believing that sports not only shape athletes but also individuals with values, hope, and the possibility of writing a new chapter in their lives.” Meanwhile, Núñez Rebolo stated: “It is a pride for us to continue collaborating because the experiences we have had over these years have been very gratifying for everyone in our group, and we are confident this collaboration has a promising future.”
30 schools in penitentiary centers
The Real Madrid Foundation develops, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Fundación Padre Garralda, the program of social sports schools in penitentiary centers across Spain. With over 14 years of experience, this initiative was recognized with the Gold Medal for Penitentiary Merit in the 2016-2017 season.
The program is aimed at inmates selected by each center, a group at high risk of social exclusion. Its main objective is to promote reintegration and inclusion, using sports as an educational tool that improves coexistence and supports personal change processes. Sports activities have proven to be an effective resource for reducing tensions, preventing conflicts, and fostering positive relationships among inmates and with penitentiary staff.
